Describe your background and industry experience, and explain how it will help you contribute to the SOCAN Board of Directors?
I have been a singer/songwriter since 2010. I am an eighteen international music award winner and a 6-time international music video award winner. I come from the community of Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Manitoba. I do contract work with the Manitoba Arts Network and have mentored over twenty emerging Indigenous artists that have gone on to flourish in the music industry. I have also been touring Indigenous artists throughout Manitoba “Inspiring Indigenous youth one community at a time.” Representation from the West is important to the music community in Western Canada.Â
In your opinion, what issues will be most important to SOCAN members over the next three years?
The most important issues to SOCAN members are to continue acknowledging artists’ accomplishments, and continue to strive to get the royalties distributed to the artists across Canada. Continue to improve SOCAN members with better service and programming. Also to continue to gain and retain SOCAN members and to be inclusive and diverse.
