SNGL Songs Publishing (EAST)

Describe your background and industry experience, and explain how it will help you contribute to the SOCAN Board of Directors?

I am a co-founder of SNGL, an independent music publisher representing 16 signed writers and producers, as well as a co-founder of Grayson Music, established in 1997. Grayson Music continues to be an industry leader as a full-service music production company servicing brands, television, and film. Together, these roles have given me nearly three decades of experience working across the creative, commercial, and rights-based sides of the music industry.

Through my work as a composer, publisher and production company owner, I have developed a deep, practical understanding of copyright, licensing, royalty flows, and the evolving challenges facing music creators in a global digital marketplace. I regularly engage with composers, songwriters, producers, agencies, and media companies, balancing creative advocacy with business realities — a perspective that aligns closely with SOCAN’s dual mandate of protecting creators’ rights while ensuring sustainable growth.

As a founder, I bring strong governance-relevant skills including strategic planning, financial oversight, contract negotiation, and long-term decision-making in complex and fast-changing environments. I am accustomed to reviewing detailed information, assessing risk, and making decisions that affect both individual creators and broader organizations. These experiences translate directly to the responsibilities of a SOCAN director.

I am collaborative by nature, value diverse viewpoints, and approach leadership with integrity and accountability. I am committed to ongoing learning and to contributing constructively to Board discussions. I believe my experience as both a creator-focused publisher and a long-standing industry entrepreneur positions me to add a meaningful, informed perspective to the SOCAN Board in service of its members.

In your opinion, what issues will be most important to SOCAN members over the next three years?

SOCAN members across all sectors: creators, publishers, and production-based rights holders will be focused on fair compensation, transparency, and adaptability in a rapidly changing marketplace.

For creators, the most pressing issue will be sustaining income as music consumption continues to fragment across digital platforms. Members will expect SOCAN to advocate for equitable licensing terms, accurate usage tracking, and timely royalty distributions, while also addressing the implications of AI on copyright, authorship, and value. SOCAN is in a unique position to be a north star to help navigate AI for its membership.

Publishers will be increasingly concerned with data integrity, reporting accuracy, and international revenue growth. As global usage becomes more complex, strong reciprocal agreements, efficient cross-border admin and improved metadata management will be essential to maximizing member earnings.

For members working in AV across advertising, film, and television, clarity and consistency in licensing frameworks will be critical. These members rely on predictable, efficient rights management that supports fast-moving brand and media environments without compromising creator value.

SOCAN’s ability to clearly explain how royalties are generated, distributed, and protected, while evolving alongside technology and new business models will be paramount to maintaining confidence and relevance across all lines of its membership.
