Describe your background and industry experience, and explain how it will help you contribute to the SOCAN Board of Directors?

I have been in publishing for 20 years and have had the honour of working for 2 very influential and different companies within Canada. I have spent my career building a thriving sync business as well as running all aspects of the Arts & Crafts publishing company. From royalties, copyright, business development and contracts to A&R, sync and creative services I’ve navigated a steep learning curve that ensured I became a well rounded publisher.

I’ve been on the FACTOR board for 8 years, Chair for 3 which has given me a unique perspective of how funding effects our eco-system and what the challenges are for our songwriters within that scope. I’ve also been on the Music Publishers Canada board for the same amount of years which has given me a well rounded understanding of the policies and political landscape that brings positive change but also challenges to our small industry.

I believe I would be a great addition to an already incredible board. I hope I can contribute in a meaningful way and excited at the prospect of working with some of the top and prestigious people in our publishing and songwriting industry.

In your opinion, what issues will be most important to SOCAN members over the next three years?

Now more than ever songwriters struggle with the current landscape of the industry. Songwriters and publishers are navigating the world of AI, dwindling returns from streaming services and reduced radioplay. I really do believe SOCAN needs to be on the forefront of ensuring that the systems are running smoothly and no stone is left unturned. I would like to see SOCAN continuing to support publishers to ensure we can continue to support the new shining stars of the future and the past.
